Fishing in Trinity Bay has been subpar this past week. Lot of the bite time has been at night during the Shad movements at night. Water temp have remained high (84⁰-91⁰) Last Wednesday and Thursday we...

What’s Biting (Trinity Bay)

  • Speckled trout and redfish remain active along grassy flats and oyster shell beds — try soft plastics or live shrimp under a popping cork.

  • Black drum and sheepshead are showing up around structure and pilings — shrimp or fiddler crabs under a float are working well.

  • Flounder are staging near deeper channels and sandy drop-offs — slow-rolled soft plastics or jig-head minnows are producing bites.

  • Drum and sheepshead near shallow reefs and tidal cuts — good bottom-fishing action with shrimp or crab baits.

Tips & Tricks for Cooler Weather Fishing

  • Slow your presentation — colder water means slower fish, so use soft plastics or live bait with subtle movement.

  • Target deeper holes and channels during cold mornings; fish slide deeper overnight to stay warm.

  • Look for afternoon bites — the sun warms shallow flats and shorelines, pulling trout and reds back up to feed.

  • Use darker-colored lures in winter (like plum, dark green, or root beer); they create a stronger silhouette in murky water.

  • Watch for birds working tight groups — winter bait balls are smaller, making bird activity easier to spot.

  • Pay attention to tide swings; winter fish feed hardest when there’s strong water movement.

  • Dress in layers and keep hands warm — better comfort means better focus and better hook-sets.

  • Fish slow-drift patterns or anchor and fan-cast; fast-moving drifts often skip right over winter fish.

  • Don’t overlook structure — rock piles, reefs, and pilings hold heat and concentrate baitfish.

Whether you’re after a quick half-day run or a full-day adventure, there’s no shortage of action this week. Book your trip with Captain David and get in on the bite!

Weather & Fishing Outlook (Dec 3–7)

  • Wednesday (Dec 3): Rain/isolated showers — likely poor water clarity. Best to avoid early morning trips unless depth/tide favors.

  • Thursday (Dec 4): Rain continues with potential breezy conditions — consider postponing deeper-water trips; focus on structure if you go.

  • Friday (Dec 5): Cloudy with lingering chance of showers — morning bite might pick up; wait for tide shifts before heading out.

  • Saturday (Dec 6): Partly sunny, calmer conditions — ideal for morning trips; water clarity should improve for flats & oyster-flat fishing.

  • Sunday (Dec 7): Partly sunny with light winds — stable conditions, good for both wading and boat trips; expect decent bites around reefs and structure.
